Symptoms

• The affected plants are shorter about a foot than the healthy plants with thinner stalks and profused tillering.
• The ears come out much earlier than the healthy.

Management

• Collect smutted earheads in cloth bags and destruct them by dipping in boiling water.
• Avoid ratoon cultivation.
