Groundnut (Arachis hypogea L)

Leaf miner (Aproaerema modicella)

Symptoms

  • Small blister-like mines appear on the upper leaf surface near the midrib, gradually enlarging as feeding progresses, causing the entire leaflet to turn brown, roll, shrivel, and dry up.
  • Later-stage larvae weave the leaflets together, feeding on them while remaining within the folds.

Management

  • Set light trap (12 no/ha)
  • Practice crop rotation with non-leguminous crops.
  • Mulch the soil with straw within 10 days after germination.
  • Avoid water stress in irrigated crop to avoid the pest infestation.
  • Maintain the fields and bunds free from weeds.
