Symptoms
- Mealy bugs cover the stem and leaf of the plant and sucks the sap. They secrete honeydew which attract ants.
- Sooty mould may develop on the leaves.
- Affected plants lose vigor.
Management
- Hang yellow sticky (castor oil coated) traps @ 20 no/ha.
- Spray neem garlic emulsion (20 ml neem oil + 20 gram garlic paste + 5 gram bar soap/litre of water).
- Spray Lecanicillium lecanii (synonym Verticillium lecanii) at the rate of 20 g/litre of water.
- Lady bird beetles (Cryptolaemus montrouzieri and Scymnus sp). are known to feed mealy bugs.
