Snails and Slugs (Ariophanta, Arion, Limax)

Symptoms

• Feed on the young leaves, roots, flower buds and open flowers.
• Active during night.
• Presence of slimy fluid on foliage.

Management

• Keep the field clean. Hand pick the snails and dip in hot water or salt solution.
• Sprinkle salt over wetted gunny bags placed in shady places near the orchard.
• Use heaps of leaves to trap the snails.
• Spread lime and wood ash to repel snails.
• In case of severe attack, broadcast the poison bait Metaldehyde 2.5 DP (Papaya stem waste bait).
