Fusarium wilt (Fusarium oxysporum f. sp.)
Symptoms
- Initial symptoms appear as yellowing and marginal necrosis of leaves from down to upwards.
- Leave lose turgidity and then sudden drooping and wilting of plants.
- The roots are usually not affected.
- The vascular bundles in the collar region and entire stem become yellow or brown.
Management
- Remove and destroy all infected plants along with roots.
- Follow crop rotation with non-cucurbitaceous crops.
- Soil solarization for 40-45 days during summer months.
- Apply soil amendments like neem cake (250 g/m2).
- Application of non-pathogenic isolates of Fusarium or Pseudomonas putida as bioagents also help in the management of this disease.
- Prophylatic soil drench with Pseudomonas fluorescens or Trichoderma spp. (20 g/litre of water).
