Symptoms
- Leaf hoppers suck sap from under the lower leaves, causing them to turn yellowish-white and wither
- Heavy infestation leads to drying of top leaves and germination of lateral buds,
- Excretion of honeydew by hoppers promotes the growth of sooty mold, hindering photosynthesis
Management
- Avoid excessive and late application of nitrogenous fertilizers.
- Set up light trap.
- Detrash the field on 150 and 210 Days after planting.
- Release 4000 -5000 cocoons or 4-6 lakhs egg of Epiricania melanoleuca (Lepidopteran predator) per ha.
- Conserve predators like Brumus suturalis, Chilomenes sexmaculatus and Coccinella septumpunctata.
