Thrips (Rhynchothrips raoensis)

Symptoms

  • Adults and nymphs can be seen in colonies on the lower surface of leaves.
  • They suck sap from leaves, inflorescence and apples and nuts. Leaves become pale brown due to this.
  • In severe cases shedding of leaves and stunting of the tree occurs. Scabs seen on the floral branches and apples along with nuts.

Management

  • Collect and destroy infested plant parts.
  • Sprinkle water over the plants to prevent multiplication of thrips.
  • Set up bonfire during evening hours at 7-8pm.
  • Use light traps @ 1/ acre and operate it between 6- 10 pm.
  • Avoid growing onion or chilli as inter crop.
  • Hang blue stick traps @ 20 no./ ha.
  • Spray neem-oil garlic emulsion.
