Symptoms
- The disease affects all parts of the plant at any stage of growth.
- Small spots appear on the cotyledons and primary leaves of seedlings, which can be reddish or light in color.
- Stems are often weakened by the disease when attacked through wounds.
- Bolls at any stage can be affected, with the fungus invading both the lint and seeds.
- Lint turns yellow or brown and clumps together.
- Infected bolls develop small, water-soaked, circular, slightly sunken, reddish-brown spots.
- Severely affected seeds are poorly developed, and typically fail to germinate.
Management
- Avoid water logging.
- Destroy infected plant debris.
