Downy mildew (Sclerospora graminicola / S. macrospora)

Symptoms

  • Chlorosis of leaves starts at base of the leaf and progressing upwards.
  • Downy white to grey fungal growth are noticed on undersides of leaves.
  • The leaves become brown and necrotic.
  • Green leafy proliferation of spikelets giving a brush like appearance.

Management

  • Rogue out the infected plants when found in the field.
  • Use quality disease free seeds.
