Mango (Mangifera indica)
Pink disease(Corticium salmonicolor)
Symptoms
- Branches of 25-50 mm thickness show bark damage near the fork or above.
- The bark region dies off and gets peeled from the wood at one point or all around the stem.
- A ringing effect is caused as a result, the foliage at the distal ends of a branch dries but remains attached to the twig..
- Pinkish encrustations later develop on the affected stem and cause minute cracks.
- The fungus is a slow killer and takes about a year to cause death of a branch.
- Severe infestation is noticed during the months of may-november
Management
- Scraping off the affected bark and adjoining healthy areas and pasting with Bordeaux paste (1%).
- Dried up branches should be pruned and the cut ends as well as the adjacent branches should be protected with copper fungicides.
- Apply Trichoderma (50g/100L) on the affected parts.
