Mango (Mangifera indica)

Pink disease(Corticium salmonicolor)

Symptoms

  • Branches of 25-50 mm thickness show bark damage near the fork or above.
  • The bark region dies off and gets peeled from the wood at one point or all around the stem.
  • A ringing effect is caused as a result, the foliage at the distal ends of a branch dries but remains attached to the twig..
  • Pinkish encrustations later develop on the affected stem and cause minute cracks.
  • The fungus is a slow killer and takes about a year to cause death of a branch.
  • Severe infestation is noticed during the months of may-november

Management

  • Scraping off the affected bark and adjoining healthy areas and pasting with Bordeaux paste (1%).
  • Dried up branches should be pruned and the cut ends as well as the adjacent branches should be protected with copper fungicides.
  • Apply Trichoderma (50g/100L) on the affected parts.
