Pseudostem Borer (Odoiporus longicollis)
Symptoms
- Grubs emerging out feed extensively on the pseudostem.
- Colourless jelly like plant sap oozes out from boreholes.
- Chewed up material will also be pushed out through the holes.
- Leaves turn yellow, dry up and finally, the plant collapses.
- The weevil is either reddish brown or black.
Management
- Regularly remove dried hanging leaves of the plant.
- Place 50 gram neem cake powder in the leaf axils on the 5th and 7th month.
- Uproot severely affected plants
- Open cut side of the above pseudostem trap can be sprayed with solution of Beauveria bassiana or Metarhizium anisopliae (5 gram /litre).
