Aphids (Aphis spp)

Symptoms

• Tend to feed in dense colonies.
• Suck plant sap from growing points.
• Heavy feeding causes leaf yellowing and curling and stunted shoots.
• Produce honeydew, a sugary substance that hosts sooty mold growth and attracts ants.

Management

• Wash off plants with a strong stream of water.
• Lure ants away from the scene.
• Place yellow sticky (castor oil coated) traps to attract and catch the insects.
• Spray neem garlic emulsion (20 ml neem oil + 20 gram garlic paste + 5 gram bar soap/litre of water).
