Powdery Mildew (Podosphaera pannosa)

Symptoms

  • Leaves, buds and stems get covered with a white powdery coating.
  • The infection can cause young leaves to curl and turn purple.
  • Young canes may be distorted and dwarfed. If seriously infected, they can die.
  • Severely infected buds fail to open.

Management

  • Spray plants with dinocap (Karathene (0.05%), penconazole (0.05%), propiconazole (0.05 %) or fenarimol (0.1%)) at fortnightly intervals.
  • Use disease resistant varieties.
