Red Gram (Cajanus cajan)

Thrips(C.O: Ayyaria chaetophora, Caliothrips indicus, Megaleurothrips distalis)

Symptoms

  • Severe mainly in dry period.
  • Leaves are mottled with characteristic silvering.
  • The leaves later turn yellow, dries and shed.
  • Damaged plants do not develop pods.
  • It also acts as a vector of many diseases.

Management

  • Hang blue sticky (castor oil coated) traps@ 20 no/ha. Place paper or plastic mulch in the soil to suppress the emergence of pupae from the soil.
  • Spray neem garlic emulsion (20 ml neem oil + 20 gram garlic paste + 5 gram bar soap/litre of water).
