Leaf spot (Colletotrichum capsici)
Symptoms
- Oval spots with straw coloured centre with brown margin ( C.O.: Helminthosporium maydis, Spindle shaped spots with grey centre and dark brown margin - C.O.: Pyricularia zingiberi, Small spindle shaped yellow spots later to oval lesions - C.O.: Leptoshaeria zingiberi, Papery white spots - Phyllosticta zingiberi.)
- Later, spots may coalesce and form an irregular patch covering almost the whole leaf.
- Affected leaves undergoes drying
- The growth of rhizome ceases.
Management
- Pluck and remove the infested leaf and uproot the infested plants and destroy them.
- Use proper green mulching to reduce soil splashes.
- Use of plant extracts such as garlic extracts is effective against foliar pathogens.
