Ginger (Zingiber officinale)
Nematodes (C.O.: Meloidogyne spp., Radopholus similis, Pratylenchus spp)
Symptoms
- Stunting, chlorosis, necrosis of leaves – Aerial symptoms.
- Characteristic root galls and lesions lead to rotting are generally seen.
- Affected rhizomes have brown water soaked areas in outer tissues.
Management
- Use nematode free seed rhizomes.
- Solarize ginger beds for 40 days.
- IISR- Mahima is a resistant variety which may be cultivated.
- Pochonia chlamydosporia, a nematode biocontrol agent can be incorporated in ginger beds (20 gram/bed at 10E6 cfu/g) at the time of sowing.
- The nematodes can be controlled by treating infested rhizomes with hot water (50 degree C) for 10 minutes.
- Apply neem cake at the time of planting.
