Thread blight
This disease is seen in monsoon season usually in fields under heavy shade. There are two types of thread blight;
White thread blight(Maramius pulcherima)
Symptoms
- Fine white fungal threads traverse along the underneath of leaves in a fan shaped or irregular manner causing blight.
- The dried up leaves with mycelium form a major source of inoculum for the spread of the disease.
Horse hair blight (Marasmius equicrinus)
Symptoms
- Fine black silky threads of the fungus form a loose network on the stem and leaves.
- These strands cause blight of leaves and stem.
- These threads hold up detached leaves giving bird’s nest like appearance when viewed from a distance
Management
- Strict phytosanitation
- Adopt proper shade regulation
- Adopt proper cultural practices
- In severely affected gardens spray 1% Bourdeaux mixture
