Collar / Charcoal rot (Macrophomina phaseolina)
Symptoms
- There is sudden rotting and death of plants in patches.
- Initial symptoms appear small, oval, straw to brown coloured lesions at the collar region
- These lesions gradually expand and completely cover the lower portion of the stem causing complete rotting of the base.
- Numerous white or dark brown mustard like sclerotia are also noticed in these areas. Soon plants collapse and wither.
Management
- Infected plants and the surrounding soil should be removed and burned.
- Soil drenching with carbendazim
