Red Spider Mites (Tetranychus urticae, Eutetranychus orinetalis, Oligonychus biharensis)
Symptoms
- Mites suck the sap from leaves and cause leaf deformation, with a rough, thickened and shrivelled appearance.
- The back of the leaf may appear scorched (turn yellowish brown) and dotted with inconspicuous whitish feeding punctures.
- During heavy infestation stunting occurs.
Management
- Spray the crop with water using sprayer.
- Spray rice gruel water on under surface of leaves (1 cup rice gruel+1 cup water).
- Spray castor oil-soap emulsion or neem oil- garlic soap emulsion (20 ml neem/caster oil +20 gram garlic paste + 5 gram soap / litre of water).
