Sour rot (Geotrichum candidum)

Symptoms

  • Soft, watery, colourless decay on carrot roots
  • Decayed areas are covered with dull, white spores of the pathogen and a vinegar-like odour may develop

Management

  • Good field drainage
  • Minimizing wounding of carrots
  • Good sanitation (use of new or disinfected storage containers)
  • Precooling and storing carrots at OoC is essential
