Red spider mite (Tetranychus spp.)

Symptoms

  • Red coloured small sized adults of the mite can be seen on lower surface of leaves
  • Affected leaves show reddish encrustations which later become reddish brown and bronzy.
  • Severe infestation larvae silken webbing on the leaves
  • Severe infected leaves wither and dry.
  • Flower and fruit formation will be affected.

Management

  • Field sanitation, rouging of affected plants
  • Spray the crop with water using a sprayer.
  • Spray rice gruel water on under surface of leaves (1 cup rice gruel+1 cup water).
  • Spray castor oil-soap emulsion or neem oil- garlic emulsion (20 ml neem/castor oil +20 gram garlic paste+ 5 gram soap/ litre of water).
