Symptoms
- Causes Chlorotic spots and yellowing by sucking cell sap from the leaves.
- Downward curling and drying of leaves.
- Severe infestation results in premature defoliation.
- Sooty mould can be seen on the leaves.
- They are the vectors of yellow vein mosaic virus.
Management
- Field sanitation, roguing of affected plants
- Place yellow sticky (castor oil coated) traps @ 20 no/ha.
- Apply nitrogen fertilizers judiciously.
- Protect the nursery by using nylon nets (200 mesh) for 25-30 days.
- Spray Lecanicillium lecanii (synonym Verticillium lecanii) (20 g/litre of water).
- Spray neem garlic emulsion (20 ml neem oil + 20 gram garlic paste + 5 gram bar soap/ litre of water).
