Potato (Solanum tuberosum)
Aphids (Myzus persicae, Aphis gossypi, Aphis fabae)
Symptoms
- Aphids damage plants by puncturing them and extracting their juices, especially focusing on young and tender parts like new leaves and shoots.
- This can lead to tightly curled and rolled leaves, as well as wilting and drying of shoots in severe infestations.
- Furthermore, their secretion of a sugary substance encourages the growth of black sooty mold on leaf surfaces, ultimately hindering photosynthesis.
Management
- Hang yellow sticky traps (castor oil coated) @20 nos./ha
- Spray Lecanicilium lecanii (verticilium lecanii) (20g/L of water)
- Spray neem garlic emulsion (20ml neem oil + 20g garlic paste + 5g bar soap/ L of water)
