Potato (Solanum tuberosum)
Potato Leaf Roll Disease(Potato Leaf Roll Virus)
Symptoms
- The PLRV causes two types of symptoms in plants, depending on when the infection happens.
- Primary symptoms show up while the crop is growing. These symptoms are seen mostly on the young leaves at the top. They stand straight, curl a bit, and become somewhat pale.
- Secondary symptoms of PLRV appear when plants grow from infected seed tubers. These symptoms are more noticeable on older leaves.
- Infected plants look pale, small, and upright. The lower leaves curl, turn yellow, become brittle, and feel tough.
- You can see yellowing between the veins of the upper leaves.
Management
- Use virus free seed tuber for planting
- Rogue out the infected plants
- Keep the field weed free.
- Multiplying virus-free seed in aphid free areas.
- Apply neem cake in the planting pits
