Potato (Solanum tuberosum)
Mites (Polyphagotarsonemus latus)
Symptoms
- Mite infestation begins with the top leaves of the potato plant curling downwards.
- At first, the underside of leaves may look oily when mites are present, spreading eventually to the whole plant.
- Leaves that are infested become short, tough, and develop a copper color underneath.
- When mites heavily attack, affected leaves dry out and die, leading to the plant's death
Management
- Spray the crop with water using a sprayer.
- Spray rice gruel water on the under surface of the leaves (1 cup rice gruel + 1 cup of soap water)
- Spray castor oil-soap emulsion or neem oil-garlic emulsion (20ml neem/castor oil + 20gm garlic paste + 5gm soap/L of water)
