Bacterial wilt (Ralstonia solanacearum)
Symptoms
- Sudden wilting of leaves followed by yellowing, vascular discoloration, stunting, downward curling and excessive production of adventitious roots on stem.
- While Infected plant parts are cut and immersed in clear water, a white streak of bacterial ooze are seen coming out from cut ends
Management
- Use resistant varieties like sakthi, mukthi, anagha, manulekshmi, manupriya, akshaya
- Apply lime in the field
- Ensure drainage in the field
- Remove disease infected seedlings
- Select seeds from disease free seedlings
- Drench with Pseudomonas fluoroscens
- Application of neemcake 25 gram per pit
- Use grafted seedlings for planting
- Seedling dipping in streptocycline (0.5 g/L water) before planting is highly effective.
- Seed treatment, seedling dipping, and soil drenching with Pseudomonas fluorescens (20 g/L water) help in disease control.
