Land preparation

  • This perennial grass requires thorough land preparation, two or three ploughings or diggings followed by one leveling.
  • Land should be free from weeds
  • Seed rate varies from 3.5-4 kg/ha and rooted slips required is 33500-67000 /ha
  • Organic manure, either FYM or compost @10t/ha may be applied at the time of land preparation

Planting

  • As a pure crop it is planted at 50x30 cm spacing
  • For intercropping with legumes 100x30 cm spacing is followed
