Gladiolus (Gladiolus spp)

  • The plant starts flowering in 2-3 months after planting based on the variety.
  • For distant market, cut off the flower buds as soon as you see color on the lower flower buds.
  • In case of nearby market or to use it immediately, just cut off the lower flower after the flower blooms.
  • The entire spike along with two leaves is cut, when the basal flower bud starts opening.
  • The cut flower stalks should be immersed in water immediately.
  • Nearly 2 lakh flower spikes can be obtained from one hectare.
  • After harvest of flowers, the plants are left undisturbed in the field.
  • When they start yellowing, the plants are uprooted for harvest of corms and cormels.
