Symptoms
- They cause damage to leaves and flowers.
- Symptoms of infestation include silver streaks and brown spots on leaves and flowers. They also dry up if the infestation is severe cases.
- Insect infestation in the early stages of plant growth causes reduced flower production.
- They also destroy stored corms.
- Infested corms become sticky and shrink.
- These produce less healthy seedlings.
Management
- Place blue trap at the rate of 20 per hectare.
- Mulching with plastic/paper prevents pupae from climbing up from the soil.
- Neem oil and garlic mixture can be sprayed on the plants (20 ml neem oil +20g garlic powder +5 g bar soap in one litre of water and mix well).
