Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis)

Bunch rot(Marasmius palmivorus)

Symptoms

  • In the early stages of infection, whitish or pinkish-white mycelial threads can be seen over the bunch surface, especially at the base of the subtending frond.
  • The fungus penetrates into the fruit and causes a soft, brown, wet rot.  If affected fruits are left on the palm, the rot ultimately dries out, and spreads to other parts

Management

  • Sanitation: Before on-set of monsoon, crown cleaning by means of removing the dead inflorescences, bunch stalks, aborted bunches etc.
