Symptoms
- The adult female lays eggs on the growing point or on the older leaves.
- Caterpillars first mine into leaves and feed on the chlorophyll
- Later on feed on the leaf surface sheltered within the silken passage.
- The pale-whitish caterpillars mine the foliage, feed on the shoots and finally bore into the stem.
- As a result the infested plants are killed or produce side shoots, which do not form heads.
Management
- Monitoring of pest at seedling or early growth stage.
- Collection and destruction of early stage caterpillars
- Indian mustard as trap crop
- Spray neem seed kernel extract (50 gram/litre of water).
- Spray 20 gram bird pepper (kandari) extract in 1 litre cow's urine and 10 litre of water.
- Spray tobacco decoction.
- Spray Beauveria bassiana (20 g/litre of water).
