Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata)
Stem canker(C.O.: Macrophomina phaseolina)
Symptoms
- Raised white cankers at the base of the stem.
- Plants are stunted and leave become dark green, mottled and reduced in size.
- Normal leaves on the affected plants drop suddenly and dry.
- Flowering and podding are greatly reduced.
Management
- Follow summer ploughing, crop rotation.
- Destroy the diseased plant debris by burning or burying in the soil.
- Seed treatment with Trichoderma viride or Pseudomonas fluorescens (20 gram/ kg of seeds)
