Red spider mite (Tetranychus spp.)
Symptoms
- Red coloured small sized adults of the mite can be seen on lower surface of leaves
- Affected leaves show reddish encrustations which later become reddish brown and bronzy.
- Severe infestation larvae silken webbing on the leaves
- Severe infected leaves wither and dry.
- Flower and fruit formation will be affected.
Management
- Field sanitation, rouging of affected plants
- Spray the crop with water using a sprayer.
- Spray rice gruel water on under surface of leaves (1 cup rice gruel+1 cup water).
- Spray castor oil-soap emulsion or neem oil- garlic emulsion (20 ml neem/castor oil +20 gram garlic paste+ 5 gram soap/ litre of water).
