- Pumpkin can be successfully grown during January-March and September-December.
- For the rainfed crop, sowing can also be started after the receipt of the first few showers during May-June.
- Pumpkin requires a minimum temperature of 18°C during early growth.
- The optimal temperature range for growth is 24–27°C.
- It can tolerate low temperatures and adapt to various rainfall conditions.
- It grows in a wide range of soils but prefers well-drained sandy loam rich in organic matter.
- The optimum soil pH is 6.0–6.7, but it can tolerate alkaline soils up to pH 8.
