Pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata)

Fusarium wilt (Collectotrichum sp)

Symptoms

  • Initial symptoms appear as yellowing and marginal necrosis of leaves from down to upwards.
  • Leave lose turgidity and then sudden drooping and wilting of plants.
  • The roots are usually not affected.
  • The vascular bundles in the collar region and entire stem become yellow or brown.

Management

  • Remove and destroy all infected plants along with roots.
  • Follow crop rotation with non-cucurbitaceous crops.
  • Soil solarization for 40-45 days during summer months.
  • Apply soil amendments like neem cake (250 g/m2).
  • Application of non-pathogenic isolates of Fusarium or Pseudomonas putida as bioagents also help in the management of this disease.
  • Prophylatic soil drench with Pseudomonas fluorescens or Trichoderma spp. (20 g/litre of water).
