Radish (Raphanus sativus)

Aphids (Myzus persicae, Brevicoryne brassicae, Lipaphis erysimi)

Symptoms

  • The pest attacks both the seedlings as well as the mature crop.
  • The nymphs and adults suck the cell sap and devitalize plants.
  • Affected parts become discolored and malformed.
  • High humidity favours rapid multiplication of this pest.
  • The aphids are mostly observed on the lower surface of the leaves.

Management

  • Applying water with high pressure helps reduce the pest.
  • Hang yellow sticky (castor oil coated) traps @ 20 no/ha.
  • Spray Lecanicillium lecanii (synonym Verticillium lecanii ) (20 g/litre of water) or Beauveria bassiana (20 g/litre of water).
  • Spray neem garlic emulsion (20 ml neem oil + 20 gram garlic paste + 5 gram bar soap/litre of water).
