Crown rot or Collar rot (Aspergillus niger)
Symptoms
- Emerging young seedlings are attacked by pathogen
- Circular brown spots are seen on cotyledons.
- The symptom spreads later to stem. .
- The affected area undergoes softening and decay, later causing the seedling to collapse.
- The collar region is covered by profuse growth of fungus & it badly affects the stem
- Disease affected adult plants show crown rot symptoms.
- Large lesions form on the stem beneath the soil, spreading upward along the branches, which leads to the drooping of leaves and wilting of the plant.
Management
- Adopt crop rotation.
- Destroy plant debris.
- Teat seeds with Trichoderma viride/ Trichoderma harzianum formulation (20 gram / kg seed).
- Apply Neem cake @ 150 kg /ha preferably fortified with Trichoderma viride / Trichoderma harzianum to the soil.
