Black Pepper (Piper nigrum)
Irrigation
- Irrigating pepper plants of Panniyur-1 variety at IW/CPE ratio of 0.25 from November / December till the end of March and withholding irrigation thereafter till monsoon break, increases pepper yield by about 50 per cent.
- The depth of irrigation recommended is 10 mm (100 litres of water per vine per irrigation at an interval of about 8-10 days under Panniyur conditions).
- The water is to be applied in basins taken around the plants at a radius of 75 cm.
- The basins may be mulched with dry leaves or other suitable materials. The irrigation schedule for AEUs of Wayanad district is given below.
