Climate

• Requires a warm and humid climate.
• Annual rainfall : 250 cm (ideal for growth)
• Very long spells of dry weather : unfavourable for the crop growth.
• Altitude: Up to 1200 m.

Soil

• Light porous and well drained soil rich in organic matter.
• Water stagnation in the soil, even for a very short period, is injurious for the plant.
• Avoid heavy textured soils with inadequate drainage facilities
